Choosing the right pearls!

In this article we will not bore you with detailed technical information, rather we will introduce you to the basics yet enough to help you make a wise decision on what type of pearls you should buy! A pearl is usually produced within the soft tissue of a living shelled mollusk  (i.e. oyster), Just like the shell of a mollusk, a pearl is composed of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has deposited in concentric layers. The ideal pearl is perfectly round and smooth, but many other shapes, known as baroque can occur. In 1893 Mr. Kokichi Mikimoto successfully created the world's first cultured pearls.
